The Quinnipiac, the Indigenous people who once called North Haven and surrounding communities' home, lived along the Quinnipiac River for thousands of years utilizing the abundant resources of the marshes and river in their seasonal cycle of obtaining food and other materials pivotal to their way of life. The talk will focus on the importance of the river for their way of life as well as a brief overview of the Quinnipiac People, the first people of south-central Connecticut.
James T Powers is an historian, archaeologist, author, researcher, and retired teacher. James received a BA and two MA’s from Wesleyan University and is a founding member of the Dudley Farm Museum in Guilford, Ct where he is currently the curator of the Quinnipiac Dawnland Museum there.
